My story
My journey into counselling was shaped by my life experiences and a curiosity about people.
During my career in the corporate world, I travelled extensively – both for work and personal interest, connecting with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Throughout these experiences, I found that my natural warmth made people feel comfortable sharing their stories and life challenges with me, no matter how difficult.
Those moments of deep human connection made my travels truly meaningful.
A new path
Learning to trust the process
I am aware now that my beliefs about myself and behaviours had been deeply shaped by my experiences of trauma, loss, illness, and relationship challenges. Entering training was a complete shock – I had expected to learn how to support others, but I hadn’t realised how much I would end up helping myself.
The process was difficult, revealing layers of unresolved experiences and buried emotions I needed to work through.
There were moments when I felt like giving up; I even told my tutor I was ‘done.’ But with her support, and the guidance of my own counsellor, I learned to ‘trust the process’.
I learned that trusting the process required letting go of control, embracing the unknown, and fostering curiosity – key elements for acceptance and growth. During those difficult times in my counselling journey, a quote by Rumi became a guiding light:
“The cave you fear may hide the light you seek.”

Growth through counselling
Awareness of how my past was impacting my belief system and choices was one of the hardest parts of my journey. However, having a counsellor who offered unconditional acceptance allowed me, for the first time, to truly feel seen. Through trusting the process and embracing every part of myself, I experienced profound growth. This is the paradox of Gestalt therapy – by fully accepting who we are, we create space for growth and transformation.
